Preventive Roof and Siding Maintenance in Orleans Ontario

Innes road used to be a dirt road 20 years ago. How fast did Orleans Ontario grew into being a mega housing and commercial landscape. They all have a roof on it, lol.

Back to selling you services you may consider. First of all, wind is a common problem in Ottawa Ontario and regularly inspecting your home visually might save you some additional costs. You may find a shingle around your house one day and the color matches your roof, you might need some roof repairs.

Small yellow staining on your ceiling is an indication of few things. * Small leak into the attic. * Condensation due to heatloss. * Poor ventilation inside the attic. These symptoms can lead to ice damming and water damage into your home. Temperatures in the capital can be +40 to -40 and poor ventilation, insulation can lead to additional problems.

Roof shingles alone can not protect you from the elements of 4 seasons. 2nd line of defence is what we call ice&water shield, synthetic felt that covers the entire roof. Any water that gets through the shingles will be welcomed by the addition layer of protection.

If your home is 15 years old or newer, there is a 99% chance that there is no 2nd line of defence. If you ask why, it’s because the municipal building codes. 6 feet of membrane is the code last I checked. Rest of the roof is bare wood. Missing a shingle or two without the 2nd line of defence is more likely to turn into a leak. Just because you don’t see stains on the ceiling doesn’t mean it’s not leaking.

Vinyl siding is another victim to the wind or poor workmanship had something to do with it? If siding and shingles are being installed on a 7/16 OSB then in my opinion, there will be issues down the road. But if the siding and shingles were being installed on a 1/2 inch plywood, the wind becomes less effective. But building codes are designed to bare minimum for higher profit margins for the builders, for tax revenues and economic reasons for steady demand.

If you are planning to redo your siding at some point, consider insulation and strapping to have a long lasting effect. Don’t cheap out on important things or pay for it 3 times to get it right.
