There are many ways to waterproof your foundation wall. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend. Also, the contractor you choose to do the job.

The problem can be fixed from the outside wall or the inside wall. Most contractors choose the more expensive techniques because everyone is trying to maximize their profits.

I have been fixing foundation cracks for a very long time, and I have never done excavation to fix a crack from outside. My favorite technique is by injecting epoxy from inside to waterproof the crack plus, giving it structural strength.

Process takes approximately a few hours and has never seen it fail. I would drill insert holes every 5 inches bottom to top. Soak the foundation crack with a spray bottle. Install the inserts nice and snugg into the predrilled holes. Once the entire crack is puddied with fast setting concrete, we are ready for injection. Process starts from the bottom insert working up on the foundation wall. Once epoxy is injected into the inserts, inserts will be plugged in order to allow the expansion process to happen. Within 30 minutes, epoxy will expand into the crack from bottom to top. In most cases, it is visible from outside above grade.

It has been the most affordable and effective way to fix a foundation crack if it’s done by a professional.
