On the other hand, having significant amounts of snow on the glass itself can be problematic. When temperatures are blown freezing point and your thermostat programmed to room temperatures (23 degrees Celsius) it can transfer heat and melt the snow gradually. Over time melting snow accumulate and form an ice dam at the bottom of the skylight. Any additional snow that melts due to heat loss or rain gets trapped behind the ice and leaks into the house.

Having new shingles does not guarantee a leak free skylight. If proper membrane is used around the skylight and wall flashing is caulked properly, it can provide better protection definitely.

It is highly recommended to have all skylights free off ice dams and accumulation prior to thaw and warmer weather. Preventive maintenance is a key to prevent leaks and damage if you had experienced it before.
