There are specialty tradesman and jack of all trades. I consider myself as an master roofer who is specialized in residential and commercial pitched/flat roofing services. Joe in the other hand he can do everything, this guy is unstoppable.   It is always up to the customers to decide whether to hire a professional tradesman or a jack of all trades. There are so many renovation and construction companies out there that offers A to Z home renovations and repairs. It is kind of scary if you ask me. I would never bid on a flooring job because it’s not my specialty. I would bid on a snow removal, roofing or siding job because that is part of my trade. How does a flooring contractor bid on a roofing job? When there is problems in the future with that roof, only the roofing companies look bad or get fingers pointing towards them not the flooring companies.
We are a local roofing company in Ottawa Ontario specializing in roofing, siding, waterproofing and snow removal services. We don’t install hardwood floors or service furnaces, we only do what we do best.
Always hire a master tradesman who specializes and knows the details not a jack of all trades.

These days we all try to save as much money as possible from renovations to basic maintenance that is needed for our home or auto. The problem is we only realize things should have been done properly at the beginning to put an end to it there and then.

If you hire a jack of all trades to do your renovations for couple of thousand dollars cheaper than an actual company or companies who specializes in that type of work you might save way more than you think. For example: an electrical fire is caused by the faulty connections due to handyman express bs and now there are no tags with the certification numbers and insurance will not pay for the damages. Was it worth it? I don’t think so. Another example: handyman express brushed tar all around the roof where they though the original leak was but next rain fall leak…

Being able to fall asleep looking at the stars is a great feature in your own home but being able to do that does come with a bit of worry when it’s raining in your house.

There can be two reasons why your skylight is leaking; first of all on either sides of the skylight there is step flashing mounted in the frame of the skylight. If the shingles are not installed tightly against the skylight and there is a gap between the side walls and the shingles, that can be a concern. And also second common issue with the skylights is that the seal on the glass eventually weakens from cold winters and extreme hot summer days. Seal around the double pain eventually cracks from expending and shrinking. It creates a gap where the water works its way into your house depending on the positioning of the skylight. Especially if…

That time of year to know.

Ottawa Pitched And Flat Roofing Blog

There are many reasons why you should remove all the snow and ice you roof. Every year because of the heavy loads of snow and ice causes roofs to collapse. There are no warnings or indications of when and how.

If you own a house or property that is rented to a tenant it is your responsibility to make sure it is in safe condition. Your tenant may have a basic insurance coverage but you are more likely to get sued by the tenant no matter what.
We recommend that anyone in your shoes to hire an insured roofing company to control the snow and ice build up. If you think about it, it will cost you way less to pay a roofing company to perform the task than lawyer fees, payouts and the risk you will put yourself and the others. The rent money that you collect every…

Have you ever wondered why all the commercial buildings have flat roofs? The answer is easy; an average home is very small when you compare it to a flat roof, it is possible to fabricate custom roof trusses for a house but when it comes to a flat roof it is impossible. Flat roofs are designed with steel frames and support beams and the houses are made out of 2×4’s and osb/chipboards.    When the flat roofs are being constructed the builder can install drainage or scuppers to get rid of the water. Some flat roofs are designed with slope so water will always drain on its own.
There are many different types of flat roofing system that require gluing, steaming, mopping or torching. If the existing roof was tar and gravel and now it is being converted to a torch-down roofing system, the slope, drainage or scuppers must be installed or addressed to eliminate water damage that could lead to a disaster. It is normal for a flat roof to have some water pooling but not a lot. During summer months water will evaporate eventually but if it rains again back to square one.
My personal recommendation would be to re-frame a new slope for water to run off or install drainage or install scuppers. To extend the life of your flat roof you must maintain it. Clean all the drain filters, remove all the leaves and debris away from the drainage and scuppers to get water moving, remove heavy wet snow to eliminate structural damage that can be fatal.
