There was a time where I used to sub-contract work to others and took me a while to get all the deficiencies and the problems solved. I was not worried about losing money, I was more worried about my reputation that was left in the hands of hill billies who just want to get paid.
It was a big lesson that made me a better business owner. I only employ roofers who cares about the quality not quantity. Finishing touches are the most important details of the product. If we have to spend extra few hours and rake the lawn, clean the gutters and inspect the roof over and over until everything is perfect. When the homeowner is happy and glad to see our company trucks in her driveway, it makes me feel proud of myself. From angry homeowners to smiling customers is a big success.
If we are performing repairs in different parts of the city I don’t need to be on every job site but if we are replacing a roof or re-roofing a portion of a roof I am always there. It is my responsibility to make sure everything is done as it was stated in the contract. Providing workmanship warranty for 10 to 15 years is a huge liability that I take on. Manufacturer warranty needs to be filled out and signed by me as well. Staying on top of my employees for insurance and workmanship purposes is part of the trade. Lesson was learned long time ago.
